NEW FEATURE: FISHING!

Get ready to reel in some fun, Starworld adventurers! We are incredibly excited to announce the launch of our very first Profession: Fishing!

Whether you're looking for a relaxing way to spend your downtime, hoping to catch new species, or eager to start earning extra StarCoins, StarPoints or items, fishing offers a brand-new way to experience the world.

Here is everything you need to know to get started with this (hopefully) fun feature.

How to Get Started

Before you can start fishing, you need the right equipment. Here is your step-by-step guide to becoming a master angler:

1. Find Captain Saltbeard Your journey begins in Valoria Waters. Seek out Captain Saltbeard, the seasoned mariner who runs the local merchant shop by the docks.

2. Buy Your Fishing Rod Speak with Captain Saltbeard and open his shop. You will need to purchase a Basic Fishing Rod. Make sure you have enough StarCoins saved up for your new gear!

3. Equip Your Rod Once you've bought the rod, it will safely be stored inside your bag. You must equip it to use it:

  • Open your avatar menu (click your character).
  • Go to Bag.
  • Find your new Basic Fishing Rod and select Show Tool.

4. Find a Fishing Zone You can't just cast your line anywhere! Currently, fishing is exclusive to Valoria Waters. You need to be standing right next to the water in this specific room to cast your line. But don't worry - we will be expanding fishing zones to all areas with water very soon!

5. Cast Your Line! Once you are in a valid fishing zone and have your rod equipped, open your avatar menu again. You will see a new option: Start Fishing. Click it, and then select Autofishing - you're officially fishing!

How the Fishing System Works

Fishing in Starworld is an automated activity where your character will automatically cast and reel in lines. However, fishing requires patience and focus!

The Auto-Fishing Cycle

When you start fishing, the system will automatically "tick" every 30 seconds. Every tick represents one attempt to catch something.

Your Fishing Status (Total Focus!)

While you are fishing:

  • A special shimmering blue fish icon will appear above your avatar's head, letting everyone know you are busy angling.
  • Your character is marked as Busy and completely focused on the water. This means you cannot move or chat while your line is cast! You also cannot open merchant shops or initiate trades.

Stopping the Catch Because you cannot move while fishing, you must manually stop the process if you want to do something else. Simply click your avatar to open the menu and select Stop Fishing.

The Catch: What Can You Get?

Every time your rod ticks, the server calculates your catch based on the specific "loot table" of the fishing zone you are in.

  • The Main Prize: Fishes! The primary goal of fishing is, of course, the fish! These are special Bag Items (they will not clutter your regular item inventory). Right now, the fish you catch have no specific function - but hold onto them! In an upcoming update, we will be releasing the Starworld Aquarium, where you will be able to display all your prized catches! (Note: Fishes are natural creatures and cannot be Shiny or Corrupted).

  • Junk & Seaweed: Sometimes you pull up things that aren't fish. You might catch ordinary junk (which goes to your regular items inventory) or Seaweed. Keep your Seaweed safe, as a future update will allow you to sell it to merchants for extra StarCoins!

  • No Bite: Sometimes the fish just aren't hungry. You'll see a message saying: "Not even a nibble this time..."

Rare Modifiers on Junk!

While fishes cannot be magically altered, if you happen to fish up a regular item as "junk", the magical waters of Starworld might still affect it! Regular items pulled from the water still have a rare chance to emerge as a Shiny or Corrupted variant!

A Note on Inventory Space Make sure you have room in your regular inventory! Even though fishes go in your bag, you still need at least one free slot in your regular item inventory to catch junk/items. If your inventory is full, the fishing system will automatically stop.

Tool Durability: Take Care of Your Gear!

Fishing rods don't last forever. Starworld's new Professions system introduces Tool Durability.

  • Your brand new Basic Fishing Rod comes with exactly 300 Durability.
  • Every single time the fishing system "ticks" (every 30 seconds), your equipped fishing rod loses 1 point of durability.
  • This happens regardless of whether you catch a fish, pull up junk, or get no bite at all.
  • No Refunds on Used Gear: Keep in mind that as soon as a tool loses even 1 point of durability, it is considered "used" and can no longer be refunded at the shop.
  • When durability reaches 0, your fishing rod will break! There is no sound or flashy effect - the broken rod will simply vanish from your bag, and you will automatically stop fishing. You'll need to visit Captain Saltbeard to buy a new one!

The Future of Professions

Fishing is just the beginning! This system lays the groundwork for the entire Starworld Professions feature. Aside from the upcoming Aquarium and Seaweed trading, the "Pro Fishing" minigame is also in development (currently marked as Coming Soon in your menus), which will offer a more active and skill-based fishing experience for those who want a real challenge.

So grab your rod, find a quiet spot by the water, and see what you can pull up from the depths of Starworld. Happy fishing!
